I was strip mining and had just used up my diamond pickaxe. I had just placed some cobblestone when I hit the hot key "3" where I kept my brand new pickaxe. My pickaxe was supposed to appear on the screen so I could keep on mining. But no. It had 'magically' disappeared. I looked all around, just in case I droped it instead of equiping it. No pickaxe! It was a good one too. Diamond with the best enchantents! 😞
Note: The old and used-up pickaxe was much like the new one I tried to equip. Sometimes, I've noticed, you can pick up a used-up pickaxe even though it HAD broken - then you could use it for just a few seconds more. Now, Could it be that my new axe and the used-up one could cancel out each other some how?
Note 2: This is not the first time, I've experienced this very same bug. It has happened at least three times (funny enough right after the Microsoft takeover 🙂 ... just kidding!).

Use these steps:
Get two pickaxes alike, e.g. two diamond pickaxes. Preferably with same enchantments. My diamond pickaxes both had Fortune III, Unbreaking III and Efficiency IV. Start mining using just one of them. When the first is used up and it breaks it usually also drops itself (and you CAN pick it up again and use it to mine for a few seconds more, though in this case I could not locate where it had droped). This is the point when I look for my other new pickaxe in my inventory. But I could not find that one either. Later though it turns up.
This is the best I can guide you in retracing my steps.
Is this still an issue in the current Minecraft Snapshot 15w47c or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
NOTE 3: The new Pickaxe has appeared again! I don't know how. I was close to the place where it vanished. But believe me, there was no sign of it anywhere when I first looked for it. Could it be hiding, somehow inside the walls?
