The bug
I was playing on a friend's survival server when I died whilst traveling through a nether portal. Clicking respawn pressed down the button but after that, nothing changed. I ended up disconnecting and reconnected, upon which I appeared at my spawn next to myself. At this point, the server admin noticed that I appeared to be logged into the server twice.
In the past when this has occurred, the ghost version of me eventually disconnected, or something to that effect, but this time I had to log off before that happened. I logged in this morning to find that I was not where I had logged off, but at my spawn, with an empty inventory.

Still occurs on 1.14
Additionally when it comes to a Realm, and after going to title screen and trying to reconnect, it says:
Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: readerIndex(51) + length(2) exceeds writerIndex(51): PooledUnsafeDirectByteBuf(ridx :51, widx: 51, cap:51)
Are you still experiencing this bug in the latest version (currently 20w17a)? I am currently experiencing only MC-181156
