When a minecart goes over a hole and is travailing in the west direction it continues going forward on to the next track but when travailing in the east direction it stops but doesn't fall in the hole.

Can partly confirm what Kumasasa says, but N-S seems to sometimes work and sometimes not, depending on the speed of the minecart (which would be expected - after all, the minecart can't fall into the hole).
Since minecarts are too big to fit into a 1 m² hole, it seems to me the only bug here is the different acceleration in different directions.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.8.1 Prerelease 3 / Launcher version 1.5.3 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Can reproduce but with other cardinal directions:
The minecart E-W runs all the time back and forth flawlessly over the hole.
The minecart N-S runs in direction N over the hole (but turns a bit while over the hole), but derails when running in direction S
