What: 2 hoppers facing each other creates a hopping look in which an item gets transferred back and forth between the two hoppers. This makes a useful redstone clock that is compact and easy to stop on command.
What I expect to happen: On chunk reload, hoppers continue to act as normal.
What happened: On chunk reload, Hoppers freeze up... just like other redstone stuff.

Minecraftaddict (WishIwasonMaui) did a video about this problem:

and another one, where he encountered this first:

I have recreated this bug. THIS IS MORE LIKELY A COMPARATOR ISSUE. Method - place dirt block, click hopper on one side of dirt, remove dirt and click a hopper against the 1st hopper (output to output). From on top of hoppers place a comparator on the ground on each of 6 edges. Place 1 item in a hopper. It will oscillate continuously until you log out (or move far enough away for chunk to unload). When you re-enter it has stopped and it seems to be impossible to restart without dismantlement and recreation.
This would be a compact "motor" for droppers and dispensers if this can be fixed.
