Elytra landing not recognized when hitting wall

I was flying with the Elytra when I ran into a wall and the ground almost simultaneously at a high speed which caused me to not get out of "fly mode" so I was stuck "flying" even after removing and replacing the Elytra. Reloading the world did resolve the problem however.

I have tried to recreate this, but I can't seem make it happen again.
