Upon logging in, player is greeted with the death/respawn screen. This has happened several times now to multiple players. The disconnect may not be clean as the player is getting killed after they log out. Players are not logging out in combat, they are logging out in what should be safe (but in these cases open areas) Then nightfall comes and they are killed by mobs because the server is still simulating them. It's very strange to see a death message when someone is logged out! Also majorly unfair.

This has happened to me before, when I accidentally walked into lava when going to the Nether. I exited out of panic, and when I came back I was dead in the lava (I hadn't touched it prior to logging out). My best guess to this is that Minecraft may simulate the world minus NPC mobs while it's shutting down; while you see the dirt screen when you press Save and Quit.
Are you the server administrator or a player?
