Blocks that emit light have shadows on sides. They shouldn't, because they create light, light that should be stronger than the shadow being cast. I made glowstone pure white to display it best. This happens in the new snapshots too.

Dupe of MC-54479
Is this really a duplicate if it only concerns light emitting blocks, and the target ticket concerns all blocks?
This, for example, is how glowstone looks on Bedrock Edition (I am yet to test Java Edirion prior to 1.8):

It can be seen here that unlike normal blocks, light-emitting blocks do not have such dark shading on specific sides.
This report is from 2016, it's not going to get reopened; additionally, it's not a valid parity report.
It seems as though light-emitting blocks did actually have this dark shading in prior versions, so I was likely misremembering. Comparison between 1.7.9 and 1.8.1 (before resource pack models vs. after):

I still think this report is distinct enough from what it was resolved into to be reopened. There's some other potentially related tickets out there, such as MC-123703, MC-233461 and MC-213446.
Please do not mark unreleased versions as affected.
You don't have access to them yet.
