horses die when traveling through Nether Portals

If I ride a horse onto an active Nether Portal and dismount, the horse spawns in the other world, but it is partially inside the obsidian frame of the portal and immediately starts taking damage.
If you wait before entering the Portal yourself, the horse dies.
I have been able to enter the portal myself and quickly mount the horse on the other side and then move it away, but it (and the player) both take damage from being inside the obsidian frame.
This was not a problem in previous versions as I have always been able to move horses through the portals with no issues.

This issue may be related to ISSUE: MC-97389 : Horses are pushed into wall on dismount.

I tested in Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 3, which includes a fix for MC-97389.

Results: Although horses no longer are pushed into walls on dismount in the overworld (MC-97389), they are still pushed into the frame of Nether Portals when dismounted within a Nether Portal.

This issue is still present in Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 3.

Steps:
1. Create new 1.9 Pre-3 World
2. Tame a horse
3. Create walls around horse mount and dismount – horse is not pushed into wall
4. Create Nether Portal, ride horse into portal and dismount – horse is transported into Nether Portal Frame and dies.
