i can't, when the launcher try to load the Patch Notes, crash and freeze my launcher. I can't make ANYTHING.

– Reported not only for me, in my location a lot of persons –

Please attach a screenshot.

P1. Opening the launcher, all clear and the log is good.
P2. Launcher start to load the "Patch Notes", when this message is in the launcher, all work fine (1 or 0,5 seconds).
WARNING, When load the page, the message of "Loading Page" disappear, and the launcher freeze.
P3. Launcher CRASH and FREEZE. We're looking the process, it's working...
P4. Going to the service, and its working... What...?

What method does the new launcher use to display a webpage? It must either have its own renderer, or it must use a browser already installed on the user's system. If it's the latter, there could be a problem with one of the user's browsers (they may not even realize they have multiple installed).

any help?

Alright, I've got something for you guys to try. It might be a good temporary fix, it might help figure out what the problem is, or it might accomplish nothing at all. But it's worth a shot!
In short, add a line in your hosts file to reroute requests to mcupdate.tumblr.com somewhere else, in the event that it's something on that page in particular that is getting scrambled and choking the launcher. You could reroute it anywhere, but for a test, let's send it nowhere (localhost). So if the launcher's renderer still chokes, there's something else at work. You can also try some other page address, like "74.200.195.170". That's nice and empty.

Now, here's how to go about doing this:
On Windows XP or later, the hosts file is located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc". You may want to back this file up, for easy restoration, though it's not hard to go back and remove the single line we're going to add.
You'll need to edit it with administrator priviledges, so open your start menu, type notepad (or whatever plain text editing software you've got, not something with formatting), right-click, and select "run as administrator". Confirm the prompt, then open "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts". At the bottom of the file, add a new line, and paste in "127.0.0.1 mcupdate.tumblr.com" without the quotes. Save, then run the Minecraft launcher.

If it still freezes, try 74.200.195.170 instead of 127.0.0.1. That's just the address of http://www.jobmann.com/, which came up on a search for "empty website", and is about as minimal as can be, no scripts or complex HTML. If either one works, well great, you can play Minecraft! Also, please paste the contents of the Development Console here if you can access it with either modification to the hosts file.

Ideally, you should remove the line from the hosts file later (once this issue has been fixed for real), otherwise you won't be able to visit the mcupdate.tumblr.com page. Not an enormous loss, if it allows you to play Minecraft, but we should focus on trying to figure out what the problem is, and how it can be solved for real.

Hello, yeah thanks! I Did that any way! with the host files,

"Launcher 1.2.1 (through bootstrap 5) started on windows...

System.getProperty('os.name') == 'Windows 8'
System.getProperty('os.version') == '6.2'

System.getProperty('java.version') == '1.7.0_25'
System.getProperty('java.vendor') == 'Oracle Corporation'
System.getProperty('sun.arch.data.model') == '64'

Delta time to compare resources: 665 ms
Download job 'Resources' skipped as there are no files to download
Job 'Resources' finished successfully"

Thats is my dev console,

Which is odd how normal it is, Ill make a youtube video or something to help other users? but yeah the first method does work.

Will try it in the update and see what is going wrong! thanks anyways!

If redirecting the address using the hosts file makes the Minecraft launcher responsive, then obviously the problem is with the renderer, and possibly the page getting mangled at some point. I actually can't load the page in my browser right now, so I'm not sure.

If the host file workaround works for @unknown, I think this is probably just a combination of MCL-243 and MCL-226. Fixing either one should fix the problem, though ideally they'd both be fixed.

@Torabi you're a genious, but one little thing:

  • When you open launcher, do not freeze if you make the "Torabi"'s solution, but the Changelog do not load 🙂

Thanks, but that's a little bug from the launcher?
