It is and I did. Both installing the .deb package and running the .jar file in the tar version directly have the same effect
Same here. A fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04.
I tried:
1. downloaded tar.gz
using installed open jdk 11.0.7
using manually configured OpenJDK-1.8.0.141-x86_64-bin
using manually configured jdk1.8.0_221
2. downloaded deb from https://launcher.mojang.com/download/Minecraft.deb
using installed open jdk 11.0.7
the installed launcher is in /opt/minecraft-launcher/
All trials led to Segmentation fault (core dumped).
I guess I'm able to provide further information - if requested - like strace run, core dump, ldd, ...
It'd be nice if someone could investigate. I'd be very happy if my son's first linux experience woudn't end up in a segfault 😉
Thank you.
The issue is occurring on Linux Mint 20 (based on Ubuntu Linux 20.04). The only packages that were updated today were Brave browser and Discord, which may have dragged in an incompatible version of chromium as described by MCL-11167. I initially ran into seg faults when creating new launcher profiles, and after a reboot the launcher would segfault every time it was run.
As part of my troubleshooting, I created a fresh .minecraft directory. This is what prevents the launcher from running, and when I restore my original directory it merely segfaults on new profile creation.
Make sure the "minecraft-launcher" folder is in the /opt/ directory. If not, try installing the minecraft launcher again.
