When I tried to start minecraft java edition to play it, I got a pop up saying it was updating. I usually manually update, (download "other" minecraft launcher, use Ark to unpack it into a minecraft-launcher folder). After waiting a few minutes I checked with TOP in Kconsole and it showed several minecraft-launc processes running. I could not stop them as they kept respawning. I had to delete the minecraft-launcher folder from my computer and then delete the .minecraft folder from my home directory to get the spawning to stop. Redownloading the launcher and extracting it results in a minecraft-launcher folder with just a minecraft-launcher executable which does the same thing. I saved the original .minecraft folder as minecraft_old in hopes my saved progress is not lost for good, though that is not vital. I would just like to be able to start the game.
I was on 21w08b before this all happened and I am guessing it was trying to update to 21w10a but something bad happened or the latest launcher in the Linux "other" category has some kind of issue.

The problem has been resolved. There is a new version of the Linux "other" launcher that works. The byte count on the new working launcher is 1,323,509 bytes in its compressed format.
The byte count of the launcher that is not working is 1,322,800 in its compressed format.
The problem is definitely in the Linux "other" latest launcher. I reverted to an older launcher I had saved and I was able to load 16.5 and 21w10a.
