As you can see below, these pictures show as soon as the Launcher activates, the MCL crashes, giving us the error code: 0. I am not a technician, but i believe that the MCL has some sort of bug to do with the new Java 17 download. I have tested each snapshot thoroughly. As soon as the 2nd pre-release came out; adding the new Java version, the Launcher seems to crash each time i try to load the New version. Could you please fix this bug, as many people (Which are on the same version as i am) experience this issue and have been since Pre-Release 2.

Update- Important news, minecraft now doens't support mac os 10.11.6 anymore because they had to implement Java 17. 😞

Yeah, I called it in MCL-19840 .
[media]I had a strong feeling that they wouldn't support older systems but I wish that they'd have given us a heads up before hand. I'm not sure if there's a way to play older versions or at least a way to do so conveniently. While some who are more computer savvy and may have been able to see this coming there was no official notification from Mojang beforehand. It's sad and disappointing.

This may not be true. I have the same issue and operating system. I also had the same previous issue with the launcher. The previous launcher issue was fixed and I was able to play. I would also note that I was able to download and install the most current version of java and have no issue. I think this is a bug

@John. I don't think this counts as a Launcher issue but something that affects the next step of loading the game itself. I too installed Java 17 and the installation went smoothly but when I check the Java version via Terminal it says I'm at version 16. I did the install twice just to confirm.

After they fixed the launcher issue, I was able to play 1.17. I hope this is not a operating system error...

Please attach the crash report or log. The crash report is a text file located in the [.minecraft|https://minecrafthopper.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder/]
/crash-reports folder named crash-date-client.txt
. If not available attach the complete launcher_log.txt
file.

Quick Update- Java 17 is downloadable for Mac OS 10.11.6 or above, meaning it's a Launcher/Version problem.

@RMath how did u check the terminal what java you have?

@Daniel In Terminal just type "java -version" and hit Enter. I've been trying to find clarification for what versions of macOS Java 17 supports. That is if it is actually a Java issue.

Java requirements are below. Appears to not be a java issue.
Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.8.3+, 10.9+

Minecraft 1.18 crashes after clicking "PLAY" on launcher. Mac OS 10.11.6. Launcher 1036 (1). Terminal 2.6.1 (361.1). Java 16.0.1. Launcher Log attached, last activity Dec 1. Launcher did not create a crash report.
"Error: Game crashed. An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Exit Code: 0"

Same issue as MCL-20783

why now? will this keep happening with each update? They just fixed the bug and now I cant play with the new update.

Hello! I get a message whenever I try to launch 1.18-pre2 - 1.18 (official version); "An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Exit Code: 0." The reason why I find this 'bug' very weird is because I can launch snapshots 21w37a until 1.18-pre1. The launcher log I attatched is my launcher log after trying to launch 1.18.
[media]Hopefully this can get fixed soon.

I'm having the exact same problem. Crash with exit code 0 while progress bar is about halfway. It's only crashing when trying to play 1.18 - I can still launch and play 1.17 just fine. MacOS 10.11.6. I have no mods installed.
[media]Update: if I select the "beta" version of Java (17.0) for my 1.17 installation, it will crash with exit code 0. Choosing "alpha" allows 1.17 to play normally. 1.18 crashes with either Java selection.

Duplicates MC-242661

Hello!
I'm not too sure if this is a bug. I'm fairly positive that this is because Mac 10.11.6 is too low of a version. 1.18 pre2 and above run on Java 17 and people on mac 10.11.6 currently cannot get java 17 and only java 16 causing them to only be able to play until 1.18 pre1. Hopefully MAYBE java 17 can be on mac 10.11.6 but we'll have to wait and see.

Are we sure that OS 10.11.6 can't update to Java 17? ...and have you confirmed that Minecraft 1.18 must use Java 17? Thanks, this would be helpful to know.

I do not believe it is Java. Per Java website, the system requirements are as follows. I have installed Java 17 and have no other issues
Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.8.3+, 10.9+

@John can you source that? I've had a very hard time actually finding the system requirements for Java 17. The 10.8+ requirement seems to be for Java 8.
As per Oracle : "Oracle does not certify on Operating System versions that are no longer supported by the Operating System provider. Older versions remain listed only for archival purposes."
I do not believe that El Capitan is still supported by Apple.
It would seem that unless Mojang/MS make some changes, if that's even something they can do, then it would not be possible to play MC 1.18 with a Mac that uses El Capitan (10.11) or older.

The minecraft/runtime/ folder contains multiple Java versions. "Alpha" is java 16, "beta" is Java 17. I tried directly running the "java" executable inside each respective bundle, with the following results:
[media][media]Alpha showed the help text, while beta crashed. I also tried the "legacy" and "x64" versions, which showed the help file.
Additionally, I installed Java 17 directly from Oracle into my main system library. The installer ran fine, with no errors or messages about incompatibility with 10.11.6. However, it also crashes when executed directly:
[media]I'm not a Java or MacOS programmer so I can't say with any certainty, but it seems to me that Java 17 is not compatible with version of MacOS. I guess my next step is to try installing a patched version of 10.12 (Sierra) on my system.

@David. While it seems like you can install Java 17 without issue, the system doesn't recognize it. Checking in terminal (./java_home -V) I can see a list of different versions of Java installed. While java 17 was installed without error or issue it does not come up on the list of installed versions. Though version 16 does show up which wasn't installed prior and is of no real help in this circumstance.
I'm pretty certain you need macOS 10.12+

Unfortunately, after some more research I believe you are correct. I do not think we can play the new update due to our operating system. Java's website provides the best java version for your computer which caused my confusion. In our case, it appears we are limited to Java 8. I have also checked the java version on my computer after trying to update it and I am stuck on Java 8. Seems like we need new computers or a newer operating system...

I emailed them and they told me they are fixing it. So i think we’ll be good

Thank you for your report!
