"Something went wrong" when trying to log in

I can not log in to the Minecraft Launcher! I see the following error: "Something went wrong in the login process. If the problem persists, check your internet connection."

I have made 2 tickets about this and each time it is closed as resolved and linked to a closed ticket.

What OS are you on, and are you using a Mojang Account or a Microsoft Account?

Hello, I am still experiencing this issue as well. I am on a Mac OSX version 10.11.6. I was trying to log into my Microsoft account. I could paste my comment from the previous thread onto this one, as it is more detailed then this is, if you would like. Unfortunately I will probably not be following this issue for very much longer, as I am soon getting a newer computer that can run a working operating system.

For the past 2-3 weeks I have been persistently getting the launcher error “Something went wrong in the login process.” when trying to login with my Microsoft account on a Mac running OSX 10.11.6. I have tried all suggestions on this and other forums.

Rare instance of game actually letting me log in. Like previously, it doesn't think I have bought Minecraft (I have). Note the error at the bottom, perhaps that has something to do with it? After quitting and restarting the launcher, back to the same old Login Process error.

I am experiencing the same problem and it does not allow me to log in with a microsoft account. I am on Windows 7, I tried logging in on another version (Windows 8) and it works perfectly. I checked on 3 different internet connections and the problem persists.

I have the same problem, and when I want to enter it does not give me an interface where to put my email and password
I tried

  • restart pc and minecraft

  • I restarted the modem

  • reconnect the account (but I can't because it doesn't give me an interface to put the account data)

  • update internet settings

  • delete the files from C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc

  • change microsoft password

an assumption is that the launcher does not update its database and tries to connect with the same data before the error, but I don't know why it gives the connection error

    Hi. I bought Minecraft java edition for windows 10 8th november 2020 but at the beginning of summer 2021 the Launcher refuses to finish loading and it signs "not responding". My account is Full09, and I migrate to microsoft account as Full095465. As the launcher stops, I see the message "Open JDK platform binary non risponde", the there is an anusual arrest with exit code=0. I updated windows, the video driver, java (1.8.0. 322) and reloaded the Launcher. I see a big use of CPU during loading and data download on the PC for about 1,8 Gb.

I have the same problem in Windows 7.
I have seen that some people solved the problem by logging into the Microsoft Store app. Unfortunately it cannot be installed on W7.

If I remember correctly, I would say that after the last launcher update (2.2.5519), I started seeing the message "Oh no! Someting went wrong, and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services. Try again" in the part below the launcher with my logged in account.
A couple of days later, it changed the appearance to play in demo version (with my account still logged in), just like the image of @P00pyGoose.

I logged out and have not been able to login again as seen in the image [A].

I also tried the same things @Jesus_618 comments, hoping for the best, but nothing.

As he says, I think it has to do with the interface to login with Microsoft, because with the Mojang option appears without problem [B].

I have installed Minecraft on another Windows 10 computer and have logged in with no problem.
So I deleted the ".minecraft" folder from the W7 PC, uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft on that PC. Then I copied and replaced the ".minecraft" folder from W10 to W7 to have the account information in the launcher and try to enter directly.

So now I get the option to select that account [C],

but when I click, it takes a while to load and at the end I get the message "Someting went wrong in the login process. If the problem persists, check your internet connection. ", as in image [A].

Something curious is that after this point it would not let me select the account, unless I reopened the launcher or interrupt the internet connection.
In the latter case, the "go back" option [D] appeared in the launcher

and I could select my account again.

 

I hope this description can help a little to solve this issue.

I add that I have had that account since 2017 and that I migrated it to Microsoft in August.

This issue has returned today, as I feared it would. i was playing this morning, took a break, and came back and reopened MC. The Launcher updated and I couldn't cancel it and sure enough: "Something went wrong in the login process". It's the same issue as :MCL-16269. I'm on an older Mac with an older OS that I can't update ate this point. Again, the game worked fine 15 minutes earlier. The issue is with the system reqs of the Launcher at this point. MC has always allowed players to play in older versions of the game and I understand that I probably wont meet the system requirements of 1.18 but I'd be just as happy playing 1.17 which works just fine on my current system and I see no reason to lock out people who have bought the game because of the Launcher and need to log in. I have a valid MS account. I can log in to MS through their own website. This issue isn't on my end and it's silly and short-sighted to purge paying users who can still currently play a version of the game.

Hello there! I am here to say that my Minecraft Launcher has been bugged the same way others' launchers have been bugged in this issue. My Minecraft Launcher recently had a launcher update and I needed to log in, I tried logging into Microsoft, although it said "Something went wrong in the login process." I then tried to log into Mojang, and it worked although when I logged in, it put me into demo mode. Now this bug actually happened to me on September 27 or 28 of this year and was fixed for me on September 30. Hopefully the same thing happens where it is fixed in a short amount of time! I am on a mac OS 10.11.6. I hope Mojang notices this issue and fixes the launcher for all players. For people who are reading this comment and also encountering the issue, you can use any client for now such as Badlion or Lunar Client although it would be nice to have the actual Minecraft launcher back so that we get more versions to play.

Hey guys! Just something happened to me and that is that the Minecraft Launcher just recently had another update, although it does not fix the problem unfortunately. Just thought I'd point this out!

Edit: I just got word that there is a new and improved Minecraft Launcher for Windows 10 & 11. The launcher has something to do with the Xbox game pass and is found in the Microsoft Store. For a while now though, some people on Mac have been having issues with logging into Microsoft with recent Minecraft Launcher updates, hopefully this will be fixed soon.

"Something went wrong with the login process." It's back again, upon trying to log into a Microsoft Account either by clicking the button to do so or by trying to use an already-logged-in account. I'm on MacOSX 10.11.6. This would happen far less often if we could rollback launcher updates instead of being stuck with the latest version (it's especially an issue with the automatic updates).

This happened before... only about a month ago. I can't find where I initially reported the issue but I got some help via email or at least someone said oh try it again and 14 hours (ish) later the launcher worked again. But now the issue is back and caused by once again an unsolicited update to the launcher.

It seems that since the last updates of Sep/Oct the issue appeared.
Most of the reported devices are MacOS (10.11.6), but it also happens in cases of Windows 7.

We are still waiting for a possible solution.

ive had this problem since a few days ago. im on macos 10.11.6. my friend has just started a realm but i can no longer play on it. this needs to be fixed. i havent tried much to fix this but that is because ive found no help online, and the problem is wth microsoft/mojang/the launcher.

Итак первое что видим список учетных записей, в моём случае их 2 - 1 mojang, 2 "wery small & wery soft".
Учетка mojang позволяет авторизоваться, но пишет что уже мигрирована "зайдите через другую дверь" )
Учетка microsoft вопит про ошибку.

1 Нажмите "добавить учетную запись", затем войти через microsift, но при этом вводите данные своей учетной записи (не создавая новую).

2 После окончания этих процедур авторизации вас опять выбросит на список учеток и они будут реагировать как должны (ошибки не будет) и можно будет кликнув по майкросовтовской учетке запустить игру.

3 PROFIT (и передайте этим из редмонда, что они не mojang и коммунити вообщето не должно им их косяки разбирать да ещё и за бесплатно)

Some are suggesting a work-around... to click on "add account" and then enter your existing account details. This does not work for me on my Mac 10.11.6. The website doesn't let me enter an existing account into the 'add account' interface. Dead end.

Yes, al eggs, we just need to wait, or you can install another premium minecraft launcher, i only know multimc, and it doesn´t work with microsoft accounts in mac, but you can find anymore

Same for me, auto update when i opened the launcher on 5/11/21 and since then it wont let me log on. Exact same issue, it also happened back in September this year (2 months ago) so you think it would still be fresh in their minds. Macbook pro running os 10.11.6. Was working till the auto update, which funnily enough i joked about it happening again as it was installing, Since update to launcher i cant log in. I managed to log in once by restarting the launcher after i noticed that it wouldn't let me sign in giving the error "Something went wrong in the login process" but it stated i needed to buy java and then since then it hasn't let me login. This time however, the profile pic for my microsoft account that was previously showing no longer loads. Last time another update was provided that fixed the issue, hopefully they'll learn from 2 months ago and fix this quickly as i payed for a product and now can't use it and hopefully in future when updating the launcher they'll keep these instances in mind.

So something that I just tried that worked (for now) - since clicking on my existing profile on the launcher page was giving that error, I clicked the button to add a new account (without deleting my account before doing so), then logged in with my existing credentials. After doing so, it's bypassing the piece that was having an error and took me straight to the launcher page with the big green PLAY button.

Hello, I'm having the same problem as everyone here since few days ago, that happened as soon as I installed curseforge and a modpack. Now i deleted everything related from minecraft on my pc, but the error "Something went wrong with the login process. If the problem persists, check your internet connection."

Nothing is wrong with my internet, as I said i literally removed everything related to minecraft, including Java, but that error is still here, nothing in the hosts file seems to be wrong, and i literally tried everything. I hope this post will help all of us find the way.

I am having the same problem. When I click on Microsoft login I get the error message "Something went wrong in the login process" instead of the screen to enter my login credentials. I am on a Mac Mini using OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 and this is the highest I can upgrade my OS. 

I have attached the txt file of the launcher log. 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app as well as restarting my machine. I can't get the Microsoft store on my Mac so I can't log in to it. 

Please advise what I can do so I can play Minecraft again. Unlike other users, I don't have another computer to play on.

Have an active support ticket but the support agent doesn't seem to understand that its an issue with the launcher. At first they suggested i was playing on an account that didn't contain a Minecraft profile/username (Not correct) then they said the issue must be with the Microsoft account itself (also not correct as i can login to minecraft.net and xbox with it) so i should contact Microsoft (which wouldn't help as the account is working fine). It's an issue that happened in September (2 months ago when the launcher was updated) then they sent out another update to fix the issue, now we've been given another update which has broken the issue again. Can't login to the Minecraft Launcher at all with Microsoft account and Mojang account was already migrated so cant login with that either.

Hello everyone! For all the new people who have reported this issue (since I have said this before), you can use Lunar Client/Badlion Client or any other client of Minecraft while waiting for the Minecraft Launcher to get fixed. It works on Mac OSX 10.11.6 and should also work for people on Windows/Linux. You can use any client BUT I would recommend using either Lunar or Badlion Client since they are very well known in the Minecraft community and are very easy to work with! You can just watch tutorials on YouTube on how to work with them and how to download it! Thanks!

Badlion client is the destroyer of worlds. At least it cannot load a saved survival world from Minecraft.

Lunar Client has some nice features, just keep getting a repeated OpenGL error.

The original Minecraft Launcher needs to be fixed. First the task needs to be assigned.

this has gone on for far to long, i lost my position as a builder on my server, that took me 3 years to get, because i was unable to login and do my job. I have tried balloon and was able to connect but was like a mannequin, could not move or anything....this issue needs to be fixed its been going on far to long, with no help. Bad lion had the issue with mac users as well...but they fixed it with a patch just hours after their update. Minecraft is a much larger company with hundreds of workers, why can't they fix this.  I think there are two separate issues here though, i hope they both get addressed, we are clumped in to one ticket. as you can see in the screenshots there are, something went wrong with l;login...then there is something went wrong with login, please check your internet... so I'm thinking we are all being lumped in here and maybe we have sep issues....Question......are you guys all on a mac?

Yes i am on mac, 10.11.6. This should be an easy fix as the same thing happened on the last update and they patched it a few days after i noticed it so hopefully the fix is coming soon. Also hopefully this doesn't happen every time they send us an update for the launcher. I haven't heard from support in a couple of days so I'm hoping that means they are currently working on the fix.

@Patty Snider, most of everyone is on Mac OS (specifically 10.11.6), but there are also some people on Windows 7 (if im not mistaken) and Linux Debian 10 (buster). I'm not too sure if there are any other versions of Linux or Windows that have the problem.

I'm Windows10 user and have the same problem.  The Windos10 version meets the system requirements.

This ticket has been open for almost a month now. It is not assigned and is noted as "postponed". The OS versions noted as affected are not accurate (OS 10.11.6 is not even listed and it is the most commonly affected). All duplicate tickets are noted as resolved. I'm guessing there are thousands of people who can't log in. I suggest that we all open new tickets, stating our operating systems. Maybe that will get us an accurate ticket ...or at least some attention. If not, I'm guessing Microsoft will soon discontinue support for Mac OS 10.11.6 and older ...and we will need to seek alternative launchers.

Keep in mind that the next MC update, 1.18, is due to come out any time now. Most likely, older computers/OSs won't be supported with that update and they're probably just punting the Launcher "issue" until the next MC version drops. At which point they can say we're on unsupported platforms and the bug isn't a bug (which it probably isn't) and this will be closed. It's a way of culling and phasing out older, out of date systems.

It's just my guess though. I'd wish at least that MS came out with a Launcher that at least let people to continue to play older versions of the game but I don't see that happening. I can still play the game using third party Launchers. I still meet the 1.17 system requirements and there's no real reason that couldn't continue.

My assumption is that this issue MCL-19840 isn't being worked on or resolved at all and just groundwork for the new requirements for 1.18 and onward. I'd be happy to be wrong though.

There's more than one issue in this bug, and Mojang teams don't assign out bugs in this bugbase for work, so whether it's assigned out or not does not reflect the way the Mojang teams are dealing with issues. We don't have an estimate as to when issues will be addressed yet since we're still teasing out what the issues here are, as there are several described lumped into one larger bug.

I check every day to see if it's fixed but I keep getting disappointed. Minecraft is a great game but if lots of people can't play it then they can't enjoy this great game.

I am still having trouble logging into my Microsoft account on my Mac and as well as my PlayStation 4 now. My PlayStation is now telling me that it looks like my account is already connected, but I am not even able to access my Minecraft on my Mac. Today at 2:50 pm for my MacOS Eastern Standard Time the launcher for Microsoft login worked! before it worked it was presented in my app store updates 3 different updates for my computer; MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)

I updated all of them to my mac and I redownloaded Minecraft and was shown both options to login Mojang or Mojang Microsoft. Of course, I clicked login Microsoft and it brought me to the regular Microsoft login screen as it shows on the web and it logged in and I was successfully brought to the launcher "Minecraft Java Edition".

 

Everyone should check for updates on their mac and check in their Finder for anything that says: Sierra Update Versions 10.12.6.

FYI... I tried using Time Machine (Mac 10.11.6) to restore Minecraft (a copy) to before the update but it did not work. I even had turned off auto-updates before the experiment. Not sure why this did not work... I thought the non-updated launcher would have opened the game. Maybe provides some clues. If anyone has tips about doing this, please share. Maybe I did something wrong ...or perhaps the old launcher no longer works with OS.

From what I have read here, there are only TWO places that provide any hind of the age of the systems that have this common problem.

I own two MacBook Pros, both made in 2012. One running an up-to-date operating system, which is having hardware problems. And the one that I am using here is using MAC OS 10.11.6. 

I last played MC over a month ago on the better system. That computer remembered my login info.

This other computer, old in make and OS refuses to permit me access to 'The Microsoft Login Portal!'

I believe the common ground here could be older hardware!

Of course, this is only a guess based on three computers.

We appreciate all the hard work that the team at Mojang Studios does all the time to produce such awesome upgrades! Even now, you're working against another deadline to bring us MC 1.18!

It must be really frustrating for all of you after the earlier setback causing the split of Upgrade MC 1.17 into two parts, to have what appears like another major setback of a defective Launcher.

The ideal solution is to revert to a previous, fully working Launcher, as this would instantly resolve this known issue! Then the problem Launcher could be repaired properly without bothering anybody!

Somehow, I do not believe that this is the issue that Mojang Studios is concerned about as much as failing to meet another deadline!

From what I have seen online, we are in the Pre-Release State of MC 1.18. (I have seen mentioned Pre-Release 2.) 

This close to its Final Release, there is no way that Mojang Studios will place a small handful of its Loyal Customers BEFORE the Majority of its Customer Base!

This is Not A Defective Launcher Issue. It is a Customer Relationship Issue.

I already paid for Java so this shouldn't be happening. Its telling my to switch accounts but the Mojang account i bought Java with was migrated so i can't login with that account anymore. @earth_dragon4 if you have your internet turned off when you click your microsoft account in the launcher, it leads to the "demo" launcher. When you click play you can play worlds for an indefinite amount of time so it's really the demo. (But for some reason you can't go on servers.)

While you're playing you can turn back on your internet and do anything else at the same time. It won't immediately break when you turn it back on and that's what i was trying to say earlier.

I was sent an update saying this was resolved today....upon trying numerous times, redownloading, restarting computer.....still same issue. "something went wrong with login process" this is getting old....im so tired of trying to get minecraft to play, my kids are angry. Hey, the someone mentioned turning off your internet. Sure enough, I turned it off and got the launcher to work [on demo mode]. So far it seems to me the game runs like normal on demo mode though, so I think this can be used as a temporary fix.

Hello! I am experiencing the same issue too! I am on windows. When I checked the comments some said it would be fixed if you went offline, so I just thought that I could go offline to access the launcher, start minecraft, and then join a server. It didn't work because it told me to restart my game. Is there any reason when without internet/wifi the launcher works? I think it should be the opposite, when offline, the account not being able to connect because of connection issues of the lack of wifi. I think it is an internal error from the launcher, I don't know. I'm just saying this to show that restarting your wifi to use servers wont work. Sorry if this isn't useful and is considered spam!

The problem exists for OS X 10.11 El Capitan. It is very annoying as it prevents Minecraft from running on older hardware, even if it would do so perfectly well.

Same issue here on Mac 10.11.6. For a while since November 8th of 2021 (this year) we can enter, but don´t have access to the premium features of our account anymore. We can use servers, but not the ones that require Premium.

With the latest update we don´t even get that and get the message "Something went wrong" when we try to log in. This message appears before we enter any login data. Just clicking on the "Microsoft login" makes that message appear.

Not very happy and wondering how I can receive money back as we can´t make use of the Premium features we paid for.

I'm not too sure if this should be put here but when the launcher is fixed which is great, although, I can't launch any of the recent 1.18 snapshots and it says "Game Crashed, An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. I was having this issue on Linux (Manjaro) and fixed it by clearing my ~/.minecraft folder, though I backed up my saves, screenshots and shaders folders.

 

This is not a great look, however. People were already asking "So what's the upside to migrating my account?" and the answer is a resounding "none, but there might be a really bad downside...".

I completely rebuilt my computer with a fresh Debian 11 installation, and still experience the issue.

I migrated my account and it seems like the process was not completed successfully. Trying to log in using my Mojang account tells me that the account is migrated and the Microsoft account tells me that I don't own the game!

I tried using 2 other launchers but the problem doesn't seem to be the launcher. It's most probably the backend of the servers being messed up.

I would like to say, that in the report, it says that this glitch is only on the MacOS versions. I am currently on a Windows 10, and the issue still pops up. I am in the same normal launcher, do I need to install the new launcher to fix the bug? I haven't tried deleting and re-adding the microsoft account just yet. Using third-party clients/launchers lets me play minecraft, so I think it is a minecraft launcher glitch more than a microsoft account glitch.

Both relate to the lack of availability of the resource, but couldn't find any difference. I've checked that the most known functionality that may use the hardware encoder are turned off, but I don't know how to check this for sure. AirPlay is off, QuickTime is off, there's not any app accessing the camera, and so.

TL;DR: is there any way to force or to know what's the strategy the OS is using to enable the Hardware Encoder, and eventually know why it is not available at any moment?

Tried a new approach. My daughter's Mojang account hasn't been migrated to Microsoft yet. I logged in under this. Got through!!! I can see a Play button and the usual Pre-Launch screen, whoa!!

Went ahead and migrated her Mojang Account to her Microsoft Account as prompted to do. Bam, stopped working - back to same error check internet message.

Really wish I had of tried to run the game while I was logged in under a Mojang Account!

Anyway... so logging in using Mojang Account worked, Microsoft Account doesn't work. Is there something blocking one login method but not the other.

As a temporary fix, for those on windows 10, download and install the windows 7, 8 version of the launcher and use that until windows 10 launcher is fixed.  This fixed it for me.  Perhaps to also fix it, they should re-identify their current windows 10 launcher as beta test and to roll back to completely working one.

@kiara "exit=0" means the game crashed. What version of MacOS are you running? I'm guessing you either need to update your MacOS to the newest or find a way to update your JDK version to the version required by Java 1.18. 

 

Also: This bug is not about a game crash problem, so Mods please consider my request to open separate bugs to track this issue on an OS-by-OS level.

I just added an external hard drive with Sierra 10.12.6 to my MacBook Pro that normally runs on El Capitan.

There are no Hardware or Software changes, nor are there any types of updates to my system other than a switch in OS'.

It is funny how Minecraft 1.18.1 runs without any problems on Sierra!

It seems to me that Mojang simply EXCLUDED every MacOS starting with El Capitan and before in their Release of Minecraft 1.18. At least we can still access all the earlier releases of Minecraft!

Can we please have an update on this bug/issue? It's been over 2 months now. If Microsoft is dropping support for Mac OS 10.11.6, it would be fair to let us know and to update the Minecraft system requirements to reflect this change. There is a great number of unresolved reports on this bug and thousands of unhappy campers in the online forums. It would be great if Mojang could confirm or correct our suspicions so we can move forward. To make things worse, those of us who play with our families on Realms can no longer access our 1.17 worlds because Realms doesn't allow older versions of the game. Perhaps this policy can be examined? Regardless, the Minecraft fans deserve to be updated. Thank you.

I may have discovered a solution for Linux. I'm currently using Arch (5.15.3-arch and 5.15.3-zen) with KDE. What I did was install the Seahorse keyring manager (it will show up as "Passwords and Keys" in the application menu), changed the "Default keyring" password to blank (open by default, no password. Click the lock) and deleted the Mojang/Minecraft related entries within it. Since then, the launcher automatically logs me in again, no prompt at the account selection screen, no error message, just takes me to the menu to start playing! I followed this YouTube video specifically

I was struggling with this issue tonight, and went through a bunch of troubleshooting steps.  When I closed the launcher and relaunched it from the "new" Xbox windows app, it started working.

Three possible troubleshooting steps a user could take here that might fix this (and please tell me if any of this helps):

1) Run Wsreset to reset Store:

  • Press the [Win] + [R] keys on the keyboard simultaneously

  • enter "WSReset" in the window that comes up, and confirm with [Enter]. 

2) Repair / Reset the Launcher:

  • Go to the start menu

3) Ensure Xbox Identity Provider is installed:

  • Install the Xbox App and login w/your account.

  • Click your account/name in upper left corner.

  • Click “Settings”.

  • Go to "General" tab.

  • If you are missing dependencies, you will some listed there.

I'm having this issue as well on Linux and very frequently. Removing the account and then re-adding it seems to be functional workaround. However, it would be great if the root-cause could be addressed. The launcher, during startup, not having access to were the login tokens are stored for some reason causes those tokens to become invalid.

For me this is a frequent issue as I use KDE as desktop environment and because of that use keepassxc instead of GNOME keyring, which I have to start and unlock manually, as unlike GNOME keyring, does not start and unlock automatically during desktop log-in.

I've just migrated one account from Mojang to Microsoft and get this ominous error "Something went wrong in the login process" repeatedly.
My system is Kubuntu 20.04 and I have gnome-keyring installed.

System warnings are:

I migrated my account during the testing phase long ago and everything was fine. Just ran the launcher today after not running Java for a while & it updates and then refuses to log me in. This is pretty poor. An update should not completely break functionality and it should not take 6 months to (not) fix.

Are we going to have to go through this nonsense every time there’s an update?

There were some big changes/fixes recently and some users will likely have to uninstall/reinstall and/or logout and log back in to reset/fix their launcher instance. I recommend trying that and seeing if it fixes it. And if not, then try to wsreset the store; one of these steps should resolve the issue.

I've had this problem for about 2 month now, its really annoying since I can only play the demo version.
I tried reinstalling the launcher, using different versions, reinstalling windows, using a vpn but none of them work.

My Minecraft Launcher used to work fine before around april. Last time i was able to play the game was when Deep dark experimental snapshot 1 released, however, after the start of the Wild Updated snapshots, the Minecraft Launcher received a update that got me affected with this bug. I play on a Mac 10.13.6

I fixed it, all you have to do is go into the one where it says play demo then go to accounts then press add account then sign in with the account you want to use and....Presto, it works

I think I found the root cause (might be another related issue):

When you make a lot of requests to https://api.minecraftservices.com/authentication/login_with_xbox (required to log in), it can sometimes just return 

{
  "path" : "/authentication/login_with_xbox"
}

and nothing else. This could be messing up the launcher because it is not getting an access token like it is supposed to.

How to reproduce:

  1. Make a request to https://api.minecraftservices.com/authentication/login_with_xbox (use `curl https://api.minecraftservices.com/authentication/login_with_xbox`)

  2. Repeat step 1 until the response is 

    {
      "path" : "/authentication/login_with_xbox"
    }

    It usually happens on the 4th request.

Observed results:

It only gives the path after some requests (the 4th one for me)

Expected results:

It should always give the full response.

 

This also happens if the request has valid sign in data, which can result in the launcher failing to sign in. The response will go back to normal after maybe like 10 seconds. You can see that it happens on the 4th launch in this video:

Anyone still running into this, there's 2 likely causes:

 

1) You're pinging the server too much - so wait like 2 mins and retry. I'm guessing that's already been tried; so instead:

I think I fixed my issue by updating my xbox profile picture. I have not been able to log into the windows 10 launcher since it launched. It always says 'something went wrong in the login process.' I was trying some troubleshooting by logging out of the xbox app and logging back in, but it didnt help. 
I had an original xbox profile picture and had never changed it. One of the ones that are now shown tiny.  I updated it to an uploaded picture that was the proper 1080x1080 and suddenly I was able to log into the windows 10 launcher with no issue.  I think the launcher expects a proper sized xbox profile picture and if you have an old pic that is tiny, it fails for some reason.

On Mac? I strongly suggest you reach out to Mojang support so we can look into your issue - what MacOS version are you on?

Most Mac users should have this problem already automatically resolved. If not, then logged out/back in should do it - BUT I also suggest you try to login via minecraft.net, and if you are also unable to login successfully at minecraft.net then it suggests you have a bigger account-level problem, not a launcher-level problem.

I found a solution,

Start your xbox app and sign in to your account.

Then log out again.

Then log back in and it should be fixed.

This is also the solution to other open issues about this.

  I have this on Linux on the latest MCL 2.3.645 and I shall follow the request to FUP support [though I did receive a prior email from support saying they were not actually doing support of troubleshooting presently, RTFM KB which is circular..].  I'll try again though.

Minor query.  Linux as well as Mac does not have the Xbox app.  Can you confirm if the app must be on the OS environment or if Xbox app might also mean a mobile device?  In any event I can confirm that performing the procedure on a mobile device does not affect the problem behaviour.

I have come across this swell but it is caused from repairing installations using Curseforge and know how to fix it:

on the bottom of the screen a message is shown talking about migrating users, if the box is black, then the log-in will not work, but if the box is red and it still talks about migrating users then it should work
