Snapshots and Modded versions are shown in the "Create new installation"/"Edit installation" page, even if they are disabled in the Installations page.
If I remember correctly, this was not the case in the past.

I believe this issue was marked as a duplicate incorrectly. The issue that this is marked duplicate of is unrelated to the bug raised here.
MCL-17524Β is regarding the filters on the Installations tab not being applied to the Play tab - a feature that I don't think was existent in any previous versions of the Minecraft launcher.
This issue is regarding the filters on the Installations tab not being applied when creating a new Installation - a feature that wasΒ present in the previous launcher (now listed as the "Windows 7/8 Launcher") but is not present in the Windows 10 / 11 Launcher.
Whether or not it's working as intended, I can't say, but again - I believe this is not a duplicate.
Checkboxes are not functionally connected to the "New installation" button - these are two separate functionalities. They are not supposed to affect each other, meaning that checkboxes filters only already created installations in the "Installations" tab. The "New installation" button is designed to browse through all the existing versions - the only functionality that affect this is by checkbox "Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in the Launcher" in the Settings.
Closing the ticket as "Works As Intended".
Is there an actual reason the feature was removed? Or did the devs get high and decide it would be funny to remove it? I see no reason to decouple the checkboxes and the new installation button, I really cannot think of any logical scenario where a reasonable person would remove it. I understand that this isnt a "bug" but it sure is a pointless nuisance that causes a lot of wasted time.Β
In case the devs need some explaining as to why you would almost never need to have them separate... when you add a new version, it is very very likely you are adding that version so you can play it. You know what happens when you add a new version? its added to the versions list, where it is bound by the checkboxes, the same checkboxes that should bound the new installations tab. If you are planning on playing a new installation, you will already have the correct boxes ticked to add it in the new installation tab. In case you don't want to play, well you are still likely adding them for a reason, and tick marks shouldnt change this.Β
At best this "feature" has no affect on the player (this is only the case if they are choosing the newest version), at worst it is a supreme nuisance that causes adding older versions to take multiple minutes
I just want an explanation, not a reference to a changelog that tells me what I already know.
This also happens to my launcher
Snapshots are still shown even when the "Snapshots" toggle is disabled, this wasnt the case beforehand
This also affects other toggles, if Release and Snapshots are turned off, they still show regardless
