Minecraft automatically quits out and then shows exit code -1

Whenever I click on the 'PLAY' button on the home page for Java Edition in the launcher, the loading bar shows and starts loading and as soon as it reaches the end, the launcher closes and then a few seconds later reopens and shows the message
"ERROR Game crashed
An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
Exit Code: -1"
as given in the first screenshot.

Moreover, a lot of the times when I open the launcher it shows a message in the top right: "Sorry! We were unable to get your account information. Please restart your launcher."
and in the bottom left:
"Oh no! Something went wrong, and you will not be logged in automatically next session."
as given in the second screenshot.

Hi there!

Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation:

  • Have you tried to install Launcher from the minecraft.net website/MS store?

  • Have you tried installing older version of the Launcher?

  • Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account?

  • Have you tried signing out of all your Windows Apps, and the signing in again?

  • Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date?

  • Have you tried reinstalling Launcher?

  • Do you have enough free space on your disc drive?

  • Do you have a steady internet connection?

  • Could you provide us with more in-depth repro steps?

I tried all of these one by one and they did not work.
After redownloading the launcher when I click on play it starts downloading and then shows 0/66 MB downloaded and when that is finished, the launcher closes, reopens, and shows the error message and exit code. I do remember having changed the priority of the minecraft.exe task to above normal using the task manager at one point but that had not caused problems previously. What I'm suspicious about is that the launcher downloads only 66 MB and then tries to launch the game. I am not able to access the launcher files as it is now a windows app. The previous launcher version used to work normally for me. These are my launcher logs:

Hi again!

Does Launcher still have the priority set up in task manager?
Launcher files are located in AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Also, did you try older version of the Launcher?

No, I ran the launcher and then set all the priorities to normal a long time ago. However, I had put the priority of the game ie the java process that runs when the java edition is running to high, and since the game crashes instantly, I am not able to change that back. Also when i try to download the old launcher, it shows the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." I have already tried troubleshooting that, and it does not work.

"exit code -1" is also indicated in logs uploaded for issue MCL-21264

I retried downloading both the old and new launcher and the new one just shows the same error messages and the old one still shows the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." error. And I have already tried disabling the antivirus I have (K7 Antivirus).

Hi again!

Did you tried looking into Windows Firewall?

Ok, so I did not respond for a while, because i was trying to get it to work myself.
Apparently i had tampered with me registry editor sometime in the past and hence it was not working. I do not have the exact details as to what had happened.
So, I reset my pc while keeping my local files and that caused my registries to be reset too, and now I am able to run the game without any problem.
It also might be related to the latest Launcher update which included in the patch notes:

  • Fixed bug relating to failure to fetch user's Minecraft profile.

Thanks a lot for your help!
