Minecraft Launcher will not open

Currently, the Launcher doesn't do anything when trying to open Minecraft. It worked earlier in the day but that evening it stopped working. Just bounces once in the Dock.

I am on an older Mac/OS and am aware that it's no longer supported and cannot run MC1.18+. However, according to the Minecraft Help Center (help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4420326353933-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Versions-and-MacOS-): "If you’re unable to update your Mac, you will still be able to play older versions of Minecraft (1.17.1 and earlier). However, you will not be able to play Java 1.18 and beyond. " I'd still like to play older versions. But can't if the Launcher is no longer supported.

I'm attaching the launcher_log.

Hi there!
Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation:

  • Have you tried reinstalling the Launcher? Restart the PC afterwards.

  • Have you tried deleting (coping elsewhere beforehand) .minecraft folder?

  • Does the Launcher show up on Activity Monitor?

  • Have you tried Force quit the launcher?

This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

  • I have not reinstalled the Launcher. I’ve searched on how to do so but have not found any clear answers and ways to do so on a Mac. If there is an easy way to do so I’d be happy to do so given the proper method.

  • I have not deleted the .minecraft folder. Do you mean the actual minecraft folder? Do you mean re-install?

  • The Launcher does not show up in Activity Monitor

  • I have not tried to force quit the Launcher since there’s nothing to force quit

Here is a copy of the Console log when I try to open Minecraft:

4/21/22 11:34:08.301 AM launcher[918]: Claimed it found a path: /Applications/Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher (/Applications/Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher) 4096

This bug just happened today upon yet another launcher update. Yesterday it worked fine.

I think the clue to the problem is:  "Unable to load nib file: NativeUpdater, exiting". Terminal doesn't record this specific action when the launcher is healthy.

I have tried quitting/restarting launcher and rebooting computer ...but no luck solving the issue. I have two computers now with same problem.

I've had a read around and I think the problem is that NSColor labelColor was first introduced in OS X yosemite and so does not exist in Mavericks. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26851306/trouble-matching-the-vibrant-background-of-a-yosemite-nsmenuitem-containing-a-cu

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/nscolor/1534657-labelcolor

https://github.com/racket/racket/issues/2858

This last link says that if labelcolor is changed to blackcolor it worked. I can try changing it myself but i'm not sure where the file which references labelcolor is.

Does this issue still occur to anybody?

Hi, yes this is still a problem with the version that Mojang provides for OS X Mavericks. But there is a workaround. You need try downloading this older version of the launcher:

Maybe this version of the launcher can be provided as an alternative launcher for older macs? as it still seems to work fine.

Can anyone who ran into this issue confirm whether it is still happening?

My name is Paul and ill try helping you, Here are a couple things that could work! 1. Restart the PC. 2. Press Windows then search Minecraft (The Minecraft Launcher should show up) then click app settings then press repair. 3. If nothing works reinstall MC it should work then.
