When ever I try to start the game the launcher crashes the first time almost every time. Most times the game will start on the second try but not always. There have been a few time when repeated attempts must be done to get the game started. The typical scenario is: I click the play button, the launcher window closes, a few seconds pass, then the launcher window reappears and a crash screen pops up. I close the popup screen, push the play button again and the launcher window closes and most times the game will go ahead and start

I have not tried to install an older launcher, I don't have the xbox app so that couldn't be an issue. As for the MS store, does one stay logged in if you close the browser with out logging out? If so that might be part of the issue. I don't typically use the MS store and I can't think of any apps that I use. I have windows set to auto update so that it stays up to date. I just tried booting the launcher in Beta and got the game crash screen with the error code -1073741819
and here is the launcher log from that attempt.
I haven't tried launching from the MS store because I don't know how nor do I want to learn how because I don't see the point in doing so. I also have my graphics card setup for automatic updates so it stays up to date.

Can you tell me which game do you try to boot: Minecraft: Java edition game or Minecraft for Windows?

Minecraft: Java edition is the only game I play and I have the latest 64bit java update installed as I have my computer set to auto update just to prevent issues with outdated software.
here is the latest Launcher log dated 5/23/2022. Still same issue. Open launcher, push play button launcher window closes, several seconds pass and the following screen appears
if I click the close button and then the play button again 80 to 85% of the time the game will start. 15 to 20% of the time I get the same thing again and again.
Just after submitting the last comment I tried again and of course it crashed so here is the log for that crash

Please install older version of the Launcher (Windows 7/8) from minecraft.net
Please also install Xbox app, Xbox identity provider and Xbox companion, and if you already have them, please update them in MS store.
Please also install/reinstall Java JDK from oracle.com to the newest version, or try the newest version of Java from java.com

Have you tried to install older Launcher from the minecraft.net website?
Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account?
Have you tried signing out of all your Windows Apps, and the signing in again?
Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date?
Have you tried booting Launcher in Beta? (can be found in General Settings tab)
Have you tried launching it from MS store?
Have you tried to re-registering MS store as written here?
Please also update your graphic cards drivers.
What I also suggest: disable all of the overlays like: Discord, Nvidia (or other graphic cards) overlay + be sure to turn off all of the program which can affect graphic settings like programs which read temperatures and cpu/gpu load.
