Launcher Deleted Itself

I randomly got disconnected from the Minecraft server I was playing on and it wouldn't reconnect, it kept saying to re-launch the game and try again. After I closed the game, the launcher wouldn't open. So I restarted Windows and got a weird error, I didn't record what it said because I didn't think it had to do with the launcher, but it was to the affect that something wasn't installed now. When I clicked the launcher icon to try re-opening the game, it just vanished after giving this message "Check the Windows Store for more info about Minecraft Launcher."

I opened the MS Store and it said the Launcher was installed, so I clicked Play and got the same error message.

I got it working again by uninstalling and re-installing the Launcher, and then manually deleting the Minecraft Java folder, but clearly the launcher shouldn't be uninstalling itself.

Hi there!

Did this issue occur more than once?
Can you try and reproduce this issue on your computer and record it?
Do you remember what this error stated?
Can you check if Windows Defender is not blocking your Launcher?

I had this issue today. It's the same message described in MCL-22606 and MCL-22556. However, the launcher will not reinstall! When I click "Install" in the MS store the button changes from blue to gray and nothing else happens.

GoldenHelmet, contact Minecraft Customer Support for assistance since it is not a Launcher issue, but Windows.

I was able to fix the issue by following the steps shown here https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/troubleshooting/troubleshoot-games-windows-10
Under "Specific installation and startup errors" > "If you get sent to the store". The steps have you remove and reinstall an app called "Gaming Services". It might work to just reinstall that from the store rather than PowerShell, if that's easier.

Somewhere in the loop of the error message sending you to the store and the launcher store page doing nothing, there ought to be a message or link directing you to this "Gaming Services" app. It would be even better if the launcher did not have this obscure dependence on another app.

Just adding an update, this happened again. I had the game open, stuff started being weird on the server I was playing on, as it sometimes does, so I closed the game to re-open it. When I clicked the launcher, nothing happened. Restarted my PC and I got the error in the new screenshot.

I believe deleting and re-installing the Gaming Services app is what ended up fixing it last time, I can't quite remember as I tried at least 20 different things to fix the issue. I've just used the Windows "Repair" option on the GS app, I'll see if that works. If not, I'll try deleting and reinstalling it again to see if that helps. I'll report back what I find.

I fully agree with GoldenHelmet, it would just be better if the launcher weren't so bizarrely integrated into Windows. Nothing good ever seems to come from integrating with MS software.

Apparently opening the "Apps & features" menu, finding Gaming Services, and running the repair feature works. When I went into the MS Store after doing so, it said that the MC Launcher was still installed, as it did last time, but clicking the "Play" button opened the launcher right away this time. So for anyone getting this error, the fix that worked for me was:

  1. Press the Windows key and search "Apps & features"

  2. Find "Gaming Services" in the list and click on it

  3. Click on "Advanced options"

  4. Click "Repair"

  5. Retry the MC Launcher

If that doesn't work, check some of the other stuff in GoldenHelmet's xbox support link, and I wish you the best of luck.

Closing the ticket as Invalid, with workaround provided by GoldenHelmet and Capn_Prat being valid.
