What happens:
When in the main screen ("Play" tab) for Java edition, selecting the installation, going to a different tab (such as installations, skins or patch notes) within Java edition, and returning to the "Play" tab, will have the selected installation reverted to the previously played installation.
This somewhat frequently results in not noticing that it reverted my selection, launching the game, and later realizing it launched the 'wrong' installation.
What I expected:
I expected that when I select a different installation to play, it would remember my choice no matter where I go within the Java edition tabs, and not revert to my previously played version, since I intentionally selected different version.
Steps to reproduce:
Open the Minecraft Launcher to Java Edition
Click the installation in the lower left corner, and change it to a different installation.
(example: if it was on "Latest release", change it to "Latest snapshot")Go to a different tab at the top (installations, skins or patch notes)
Return to the "Play" tab, and note that the selected installation in the lower left corner has reverted to the previous selection.
(example: if it was changed from "Latest release" to "Latest snapshot", it will have reverted to "Latest release")

Hi!
Does this issue still occur on the newest build?
It doesn't revert when you switch tabs within the Launcher, only when you select a new ("not previously played") installation and close the Launcher without starting that installation. Then it reverts to the previously played installation.
