If I change the version of say, an installation, to 1.8 when it was 1.9, and click play, when I reopen the launcher it will say 1.9. Same if I change the installation. It forgets stuff.

I have this problem too, every time I change versions that I already have installed- it turns on auto jump, changes my brightness, brings up the multiplayer server warning message, takes off my resource packs: essentially clearing all of my settings. I just noticed today that it seems to be redownloading the version everytime I launch after using another version.

I added my launcher_log.txt. I've been having this issue since downloading MC to my new computer. It saves profiles and changed settings, but it refuses to keep me logged in between reboots. I don't think this was previously the case. Using launcher version 2.1.17784

Repro steps:
Create a launcher profile
Launch the game and observe that the version number is the same
Switch version of profile to another version (1.16.5 to 1.15.2)
Save and launch the game
Observe that the profile immediately reverts to previous version
Workaround: Save profile and restart launcher before pressing play.

Workaround that doesn't suck: Edit the arguments in launcher_profiles.json

I got the update to:
UI
2.3.520

and it does appear to be saving and using my custom resolution settings.

I concur with natebc. After the launcher autoupdate to version 2.3.520, I no longer have the forgotten resolution problem.

sounds like version released late 2022 resolved the issue

this issue is less common still happens.

I still experience the issue with the launcher V3.2.21-2.0.16 launcher will not save what instance was selected last when launching game, or closing app
Is this still an issue on the latest version of the launcher? Also please attach your %APP_DATA%/.minecraft/launcher_log.txt so we can do some more investigation.
