Launcher: Cannot Install Minecraft Dungeons To D: Drive Or Other Drives

(For reference, I have contacted Minecraft support about this who instructed me to make this bug report)

Since upgrading my potato laptop to a new gaming PC (with added m.2 storage) that can actually play Minecraft and other games, I've noticed on the Minecraft Launcher that I cannot install Minecraft For Windows or Minecraft Dungeons (and presumably Minecraft Legends as well, though I haven't bought it yet) to my 2TB D: drive (m.2 nvme) or other drives on my PC. It does not give me the option to change to D: drive (which all my other games are stored) or a different drive and has my C: drive (my PC's boot drive) as the only option available. I've heard on Google and forums that you can go to the "profiles directory", but there is no such option on the launcher itself. If it is a file in .minecraft or another folder that needs editing, I'm a novice at that sort of stuff and might mess something up.

Also, I currently have my Minecraft Java installed on my C: Drive and want to transfer it to the same D: drive (without losing progress). Does anyone know how? As mentioned above, I've contacted Minecraft support about this who instructed me to send it all as a bug report.

Screenshots are available for reference. Hoping someone can help, thanks in advance 🙂

Hi there! Did you try the following?

  1. Open Settings on your device using one of the following options:

    • Select the link in the “Selected drive is not set up to install games” message

    • Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type settings, and then select it from the list

  2. Select System > Storage, and then select Change where new content is saved under More storage settings (Windows 10) or Advanced storage settings (Windows 11).

  3. Under New apps will be saved to, choose the drive to which you want to save the game content.

Hi again! Yes, this will change the default install location. You can change it back after installation.

Hi, yes exactly. This is not a bug, this is feedback.

You should also see a note (InstallByVolumeDialog) with launcher version 2.8.2 which brings you to the Windows Settings ("Missing an install location? Check Windows Settings and verify your drive is setup to install Apps. For more details see the Minecraft Launcher Troubleshooting FAQ.").

This is a feedback for Launcher team. For posting new feedback please use https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/topics/360000958132-Launcher
