Unexpected error when opening launcher, no error code

Hi,

I haven't played Minecraft in a couple years and thought I'd try getting back into it, but every time I open the launcher, I get an error message. I can't see an error code to search for help, and I can't find anyone who's had the same problem so I'm a bit stumped.

I've restarted my pc, uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft multiple times, tried repairing the app in settings, updated my drivers, I can't figure out what's wrong at all, so I'd really appreciate some help!

Thanks for the log file, I can't find anything conspicuous there at the moment. Did you try logging out of the MS Store and the Xbox app and then logging back in?

Hi, I contacted Mojang Support last night, but they've not been very helpful so far. Hopefully if they get back to me again, they can help me get it fixed eventually.

My Xbox gamertag is PickAndNyx, and I directly purchased Minecraft Java off of minecraft.net in January 2021

I found a group of people from August 2022 who had the same problem as I do (MCL-22283), but they all seem to have been new to Java and hadn't even set their usernames yet. Setting their usernames fixed the problem, which obviously isn't the problem for me as I made my Java account a couple years ago. I'm not sure if this actually helps at all, but it's more of a lead than I had before!

Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation: 

  • Have you tried installing a different version of the Launcher (in this case win7/8 version)? 

  • Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account? 

  • Have you tried signing out of all your Windows Apps, and the signing in again?

  • Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date (check for updates regardless)? 

  • Are your graphic card drivers up-to-date? Please check for updates regardless.

  • Please also uninstall the Launcher, delete .minecraft folder (copy its content elsewhere before deletion) and then reinstall, restart your computer. Then please try to boot the Launcher.

I hadn't thought of trying a different version of the launcher, it's worked!! The error message isn't showing up anymore.
