Some users resolved this by disabling their VPN app.
Please try disabling/uninstalling your VPN and after computer restart, try and boot the Launcher again.
Remember to install xbox companion and xbox identity provider.

No my problem is not changing my username/ display. But rather when I click on the Java tab this error shows up. So I'm unable to play the Java Edition on that account. It works just fine on my other account.
With this new information what do you think it the best action to get this fixed? Btw I did goto Minecraft support but their suggestions didn't help then they started sending me more general Xbox solutions.
@unknown This might be a longshot - but have you verified whether you're logged in to the MS Store with the same account? It working on one account and not the other might suggest something like that. https://aka.ms/MSStoreHome - it's always wisest to be logged in to the Launcher with the same account that's in the MS Store and the Xbox App when you're having trouble, just to be extra sure/safe.
I did do the whole log into MS store and xbox app with same login at the same time, which was suggested by the Minecraft support. It didn't change anything. Minecraft Support told me it wasn't a minecraft problem but was a MS problem and sent me to MS support. But tbh the MC support were so clueless on how the basic MC launcher startup works, I doubt they looked into it very thoroughly.
I got it to work!
I'm not sure what exactly did it but this is everything I did.
-Login on same acc on MS store, Xbox app, MC launcher.
changed these MC launcher settings: turn on beta version, disable hardware acceleration, disable quick play feature and deleted all quick play entries.
restarted MC launcher but got error. Error said to restart PC
restarted pc
-it worked, after trying for months!
This bug has gone out of the original scope of what was reported now, hence I am closing it.

Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation:
Have you tried to install Launcher from the minecraft.net website/MS store?
Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account?
Have you tried signing out of all your Windows Apps, and the signing in again?
Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date (check for updates regardless)?
Do you have enough free space on your disc drive?
Are your graphic card drivers up-to-date? Please check for updates regardless.
Please also uninstall the Launcher, delete .minecraft folder (copy its content elsewhere before deletion) and then reinstall, restart your computer. Then please try to boot the Launcher.
Do you use VPN or any of the incompatible software on machine you try to log-in?
Could you provide us with more in-depth repro steps?
