The Minecraft.deb file has a dependency on the package libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0, but it appears as unavailable on the latest Ubuntu 26.04 release. The package appears to have been renamed to libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 (with an added dash) in Ubuntu 26.04, and the user may not notice an issue if they had minecraft-launcher installed prior to upgrading in place from Ubuntu 24.04 to Ubuntu 26.04. On new installations of Ubuntu 26.04, installing the Minecraft.deb file will fail unless the user manually unpacks and repacks the file updating the dependency name.
To fix this, the deb package must specify libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 and libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0` as interchangeable dependencies.
Below on a system updated from Ubuntu 24.04 to 26.04 where minecraft was previously installed , the diverging package names can be seen. This causes libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 to be held back until the package minecraft-launcher is uninstalled. If the launcher is uninstalled and apt autoremove is run, the older package version may be removed and prevent the launcher from being reinstalled again later.
$ apt list --installed |grep libgdk-pixbuf

Below is a control file modified to allow either form of the dependency to be used (used to get the package installed in a fresh instance of Ubuntu 26.04 while still supporting the older release 24.04):
