minecraft launcher fails to install on linux (debian)

When downloading the debian installer from minecraft.net, attempting to install the file on ubuntu (and derivatives) 25.10 & later (ive only tested 25.10 and 26.04 beta) the installer fails to install. The problem is identical to MCL-25152. MCL-25152 has been marked as resolved. it is NOT resolved.

below is the error message when trying to install the .deb file from the terminal.

this bug report is technically a duplicate. however its a duplicate of a bug report that has falsely been marked as resolved.

i should have added to the bug report before submiting. the steps to reproduce this bug are as follows:

  1. have any machine with ubuntu 25.10 installed

  2. download the official minecraft.deb file from the minecraft website

  3. try to install the file

  4. the error will present itself.
