I opened Minecraft with "Open output log when game starts" checked and played as usual.
I closed the launcher, and when I wanted to open it again nothing happened. I also tried to open the launcher via Terminal but no output is shown. What happened is that the Minecraft Launcher process never stopped. This keeps happening when I check "Open output log when game starts".

A quick fix could be doing "killall launcher" in the terminal. No sudo required! Then you can open the launcher once again. I did this when it happened and unchecked "Open output log when game starts".
Found a work around, toggling "Keep launcher open" on, will kill the process after closing the game and it.
Hi there!

Does this issue occur on the newest version of the Launcher?

No, I do not have antivirus on this particular device.
I can confirm on a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.10, downloading the Minecraft.deb and after playing and then closing the game, the process persists. This prevents opening the launcher again.
