Audio stops working after switching apps in iOS 14

Game still plays as normal but audio stops working when I switch between Minecraft and other apps. Need to fully close app in order to restore audio.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open Minecraft in your iDevice

  • Start playing, ensuring that sounds work as expected

  • Switch apps

  • Go back to Minecraft

  • Sounds are gone

For better context, I’m using an iPad Pro 12.9” 2020, Magic Keyboard and a Bluetooth Gamepad, sound coming from the iPad’s speakers. I can record a video of it happening if needed.

Dunno if its worth anything in mentioning, but I was watching a video in PIP and locked my iPad and came back to it, expecting to close Minecraft and relaunch it and the audio continued to play along with the video in the PIP.

I found a similar work-around. If I’m in the Minecraft app and there’s no sound (due to this bug) I activate Siri (via “hey Siri”) and then wait for Siri to go away. Sound is restored

Brian

I’m using iPad Air 4 and the only time I have sound is with a fresh launch of the Minecraft app. If the app was opened and then closed or switched from another app back to Minecraft I will not have sound again until I force closes the app through the app switcher or restart the device. Latest iOS. Latest Minecraft. No resource packs.

Yep, the same problem has been happening with me too. Glad that its not only me that has this current issue! It seems that the problem is with any iPad (i have an 6th gen iPad) that uses current software versions iOS 14 or more (im using iOS 14.1). Hopefully Mojang notice this and fix this as soon as possible because it’s going to be a bigger problem later on!

Observed here with fully updated iPad Pro 11" (2020).

If playing using internal speakers and the no-sound condition starts, putting on a pair of already-paired AirPods will result in sound in the AirPods. Taking the AirPods off may not restore sound from the internal speakers.

Hi. I too am on on Ipad 6 and this has just happened to me. However, the sound is NOT RESTORING although I have done everything - fully closing the app and restarting my ipad. Ive also tried the workaround methods but they didnt work. Pls help as my game currently is completely silent 😞

ipad 6th gen ios 14.0.1 the only fix i know works for me is to just close the game and reopen

Bruh, what’s wrong with Mojang why they haven’t resolved this issue? Is it a technical  issue? Is this bug out of Mojang’s reach and it’s coming from Apple themselves? The game just had an bug fix update just recently but this bug is still here! What is happening?

I have the same issue on an iPad Pro 10.5 inch. No sound after switching apps, until restarting Minecraft.

Brian

In seeing examples of different terminology for the process of getting the sound to return, it should be noted here for clarity’s sake that any mention of instances of “restarting the app”, “fully closing the app”, “closing the game and reopening” etc to return sound to Minecraft are referring to the process of forcing the app closed by this method documented by Apple https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201330

Same problem on iPad 7, I need to launch gamę again. The still didnt fix this from july, who cares

This still occurs on 1.16.100

Still happening on 1.16.101. I am using an iPhone 11 pro. Not sure how this could still be a thing this many updates later. So many bug reports of this issue linked here. No priority?? No one looking into this?

I have experienced this too, on an iPhone SE (2nd Generation). So, this bug is on most iOS devices that are running iOS 14 or iPadOS 14. That’s weird because it never happened to me when I was running iOS 13.7 and lower. The solution is similar to mine, close all apps (including Minecraft) and relaunch Minecraft again to regain sound capability. But I found a not-so effective fix to this. Just switch between app switcher and Minecraft, and sound will return. It’s not effective though, as when you switch apps again, it will happen again. This still happens in the latest version of iOS or iPadOS (iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 at the time of this comment) and the latest version of Minecraft (1.16.101 at the time of this comment).

I can confirm that this happens on Windows 10 Bedrock as well

This has started to happen to me with 1.17.34 on iOS 15 after suspending the app. The game needs to be closed completely and reopened again for sound to come back. Minecraft is the only application this happens to.

Video of this occurrence is linked via an unlisted YouTube link due to file size being too large. I only demonstrated with the main menu and settings but this happens with the whole game.

Still occurring in 1.18.2.

Issue still present in 1.18.4, seems to fix itself by third relaunch. Please fix.
