Since 1.14 I have been unable to get the same darkness in any artificial structure I build to collect mobs. Does not matter what y coordinate or whether fully enclosed or not. No torches on the outside either. The lighting is mid tone always instead on dark like underground. Very low mob yields even at night. I am well within the spawning range.

What kind of blocks are you using to build your structure? Some blocks allow light to pass through them even though they appear to be solid. It would also help if you attach a screenshot.
