quick note - my minecraft version is 1.16.20102.0 - which is not an option in the above "affected Version/s" tab.
recently purchased an oculus rift S to play minecraft VR on - installed minecraft via the microsoft store, and then installed the oculus portion via the oculus app. Every time I run the oculus minecraft launcher I get put in the loading screen with "waiting for windows update" for about 10-15 seconds, then it kicks me out to the oculus home, and I find minecraft running on my desktop in normal mode - non VR.
I am an IT professional and I've tried all the normal things - reinstalling everything, updating everything, reinstalling drivers, etc. Nothing is fixing the issue or changing the problem. I dug a bit for crash dumps or error reports - there are none as the game is not crashing, just failing to launch in the mode that I want.
the bigger problem is this website is almost useless with how many bug reports are on it - I can't find any useful info because there are so many similar bugs. So, creating this bug report, as I paid money for this product and it should work without me having to put hours of work in.

seems problem was a registry error due to steamvr having a registry entry with the same name as one required by oculus vr - far as I can tell, this is not my area of expertise.
I edited the steamvr registry entry to point to oculus vr, and all works, but now I have to do that registry change every time I want to swap back and forth between oculus minecraft and any game I want to play on steam.
registry entry in question:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1
"ActiveRuntime" "REG_SZ" "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win64.json"
minecraft works when this entry is edited to be:
"ActiveRuntime" "REG_SZ" "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json"
I am having the same issue with my quest 2. Freshly rebuilt pc, downloaded minecraft from the store and the bit from oculus. Go into headset, open the game, get the checking for updates view then it kicks me out and I find 2d mincraft opening on the desktop.
Many of the comments on MCPE-16946 are about people switching their OpenXR engine back to Occulus Rift.
I am specifically interested in using Minecraft with SteamVR (and I am seeing the crash with error -2147219196). Is this crash considered part of that issue, or should a separate issue be opened for the specific case of Minecraft + SteamVR?
that mod didn't even check because that's not even close to the same issue and this still hasn't been resolved. talk about disappointing. has anyone found a better fix than Breccan Kennedy Albers or is that still the only fix
Resolving temporarily as Awaiting Response. Is this still an issue in the latest versions of the game (1.17.30 Hotfix or 1.17.40.21 Beta)?

Not the same issue - he mentions that his minecraft crashes at launch - mine does not, it just runs in desktop mode rather than VR mode. I am also not running windows 10 beta mode.
gotta say I'm even more disappointed in Mojang than when I opened this originally - y'all didn't even fully read the ticket before resolving it and stacking it on the pile.
