Occurring both on local save and on a realm:
(I will try to provide images that correspond to this report!)
1. Squid are not spawning in a Squid farm.
2. The farm is made of 64 flowing water columns, each with an air column in-between.
3. The columns range from Y-64 to Y-43, and are arranged in a square.
4. The farm was made in a river biome - we confirmed the river biome by finding clay, salmon, and even that squid were spawning in this river before we made the farm!
5. We drained all water in the area, including rivers and ponds.
Even with all these conditions met, squid won't spawn! There must be something wrong that won't allow them to spawn! We have tried a lot of troubleshooting and nothing works! Thanks!
Please read here:
(I tested making the entire area water source blocks, and I had 2 groups of Salmon spawn while building it, but after that no more salmon spawned, and zero squid have spawned!)
The purpose of this farm was to have an ample resource of Ink Sacks, because hunting them in the ocean is way too scarce! We used sources like wikipedia and youtube to confirm where/how they spawn! Assuming any of those are correct, the first farm should be spawning squid (made of tall flowing-water columns). But the second variation using an entire cube of water source blocks, that isn't spawning any squid either! There must be something wrong with the game! I hope they fix it soon because we need A LOT of ink sacks!

Flowing water meaning they aren't source blocks. There is one water source at the top of each column, the water flows down and is stopped by fence gates. Overall it is a very large area and if the spawning rules are correct then there 100% should be squid spawning here. I will have to download a local copy and test it. I've already searched reddit, discord, and youtube. That's why I came here, because I can't find an answer why they aren't spawning.
Ok I tested this in a local save and there are no squid. Also should you recategorize this to MCPE or should I make a new post?
Have you tried having a larger spawn area than a single source block, such as a 2x2 column, or at least 2 blocks deep? There may be other spawn rules for squid that prevent spawning in 1x1x1 area.
@Umija5895M Are you aware of the other spawn rules? This would be helpful! 😉 Based on your suggestion, I made the entire area into water source blocks. During construction, 2 groups of Salmon spawned, but since then, no more salmon spawned, and no squid spawned! I'm sitting here for a while also trying different distances and they aren't spawning. I will include a picture of the reconstructed area.
I am having this exact issue, For my farm I've prepared it for 1.18 update (below Y30) and still not getting a single squid spawning. Happening in my realm and tried in on a offline survival world. No luck. Currently update installed is 1.17.43

What do you mean by "flowing water columns"?
Does the issue happen in a local copy of the world or only on the realm?
You might also attach a screenshot showing your farm.
Please also note that general game issues should be reported in the MCPE project unless they only happen on a realm.
In addition, for technical gameplay issues such as this you might want to visit one of the Minecraft forums on reddit or discord.
