You can obtain opened barrels. The game treats opened barrels as an obtainable block.

How to reproduce:

  1. Have 2 players, let one of the players open the barrel and keep it opened, mine the barrel or pick block it, and you have an opened barrel block.

Observed Results:
It gives you an opened barrel block.

Expected Results:
It is supposed to give a closed barrel block.

The open_bit data value is being saved.

This actually can be did in singleplayer:

  • Place barrel

  • Press E and Right Click at barrel at the same time

  • If barrel opens, but instead shows inventory, it means that you did correctly.

  • Obtain, done.

The barrel stays open if it got pushed by a piston while opened. Affects version 1.20.51
