If an user modifies options.txt and sets gfx_viewdistance to a value higher than their system's recommended maximum, when Minecraft is launched the view distance is reset. This is counter-intuitive.

I don't think 2048 is an unreasonable value. 2048 blocks equal 128 chunks, which worked a few weeks ago when renderdragon was in beta.
