No Snowballs after shoveling snow slabs

Were you destroying the blocks by tapping and holding (mining), or by using a shovel on the layer (tap)? If the former is true, this would be working as intended.

Sounds like my problem might've been mining. I don't deal with snow piles often.

So this works as intended? Snow just needs a tap to get snowballs, a bit like making villager path blocks.
