When lava is placed over a sign in a one by one are signs dont burn but if you try to make it even 2 by 2 and add two signs on each side and then lava ontop the signs burn.

Perhaps I did not understand your bug properly, but when I place lava above a 2x2 hole where there are 4 signs in that hole attached to the sides of blocks, the signs do not burn up. Doesn't seem to matter which way I place the 4 signs or where I place the lava. When I remove the lava, the signs do burn up...

That's a bit weird but yes when I make a two by two hole and place 4 signs two on each side and the a lava source block directly above one of the signs or a source block above each sign the signs will be OK for a second and then 1 will catch fire and then they all catch fire and burn

This works as intended. Flammable blocks requires at least one air block adjacent to them to catch fire.
