When your Minecraft client is set to fullscreen, it will freeze and eventually crash when minimized twice. This has never happened to me before on previous versions, so it was most likely caused by the 1.17.10 update.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set your client to fullscreen.
2. Open any Minecraft world.
3. Minimize the client, reopen, and then minimize again.
Observed Results:
The client freezes up, forcing the user to close.
Expected Results:
The client opens back up without any issues.

Aha, so THIS is the culprit! My workaround to this bug is to ctl+alt+del and cancel. Your mouse will then come back and be able to interact with other tabs. However, you are lucky because for me, minimizing means that my client will disconnect from any online game
Oh, so second time alt tabbing into the game, indeed! Works that way to me too, I previously wrongly assumed it's to do with alt tabbing during autosave.
Thanks Junaid Warsi, had no idea about such thing as Windows Game Bar. Very useful tip!
noob1884, your workaround doesn't work to me. Mouse doesn't disappear to begin with when the freeze occurs, and canceling Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't change anything in my case. I don't know if you have different OS. Windows 10 Pro in my case.
This also affects mobile users for 1.17.11 on Android 11 as well as Windows 10 users not using full screen modes. This bug has been persistent for quite a while. Users on mobile should expect to be able to toggle apps without being kicked from the game.
When the game is left open and in fullscreen mode, clicking outside of the window, on different monitors, has a chance of causing a graphics freeze and crashing the game. even after closing the game the last frame of gameplay is left frozen on the screen for several minutes afterwards. chances seem to worsen the longer the game is left unfocused.
Please note, this seems to be seperate from the duplicate issue, as one doesnt need to minimize the game for the issue to occur, and it occurs in menus and all other states where the game is open. to my knowledge it has persisted through the last several versions of the game, ie it was not introduced by the latest update. Rather than reloading (showing a bar that goes from 0 to 100 percent and then resuming the game) the client simply freezes up entirely, continuing to appear onscreen for several seconds even after the game is closed, which indicates some kind of processor-thread lockup with the renderer

My fullscreen game freezes when I watch a trailer from the marketplace in my edge browser. I have to click on minecraft in my taskbar to open it up in fullscreen again, then it freezes/hangs. I will play in window mode for now until this problem is resolved.
It happens every single time you exit Minecraft(while in game menu, in game settings or in your world or just after starting the game). The game also makes task bar, task manager or any other application inaccessible. Only way to exit is killing the processes using: Win+G(Game bar)> Open resources from widgets menu> Kill Minecraft
