Spawner generates with no mob inside and does not spawn anything

Note

If your affected spawner sometimes works, or starts working again after you reload the world, or shows a mob spinning but just doesn't spawn anything, then you do not have this bug. Those behaviors are tracked at MCPE-142285.

This bug report only applies to spawners that never work and never show a mob inside.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a world without Caves & Cliffs experiements, with seed 648853.

  2. /tp 16 80 291

  3. Save & quit.

  4. Enable Caves & Cliffs experiments in the world settings.

  5. Load the world and /tp 16 -43 291.

Expected result

The spawner at 16, -43, 291 has a zombie spinning in it and spawns zombies, and the chests in the dungeon have loot.

Observed result

The spawner at 16, -43, 291 has nothing spinning in it and does not spawn anything, and the chests in the dungeon cannot be opened and drop nothing on breaking.


I found a cave spider spawner inside a mineshaft I lit it with torches to stop them from spawning and left the mineshaft I went back to get some EXP so I removed the torches and the spawner appears as if it's empty it has no mob spinning inside nor does it have the usual flame effects and nothing is spawning from it. When I remove the torches the light level should be enough for them to spawn and there should be a cave spider spinning inside the spawner

What do you mean by "it's empty"? Like it has no mob rotating inside? Did you wait to see if anything spawns from it?

I will revise the description on my report but yes there is no mob spinning inside and not particle flame effects either

This was was created last week in 1.17.34. When 1.17.40 came out on Wednesday, I upgraded the sever and enabled the Caves-N-Cliffs experimental toggle. Over the weekend, I noticed that many of the mobs spawner's nbt data had missing `EntityIdentifiers`, and thus have no entity spinning in the mob spawner and don't spawn mobs when the player gets close.

This bug is caused by upgrading chunks generated without the Caves & Cliffs generation to the Caves & Cliffs format. When the game generates new blocks in already existing chunks it does not add tile entity data to those blocks. Probably this relates to the chunk upgrade algorithm reading the pre-existing finalization state of the chunk, instead of setting its own.

This bug should be fixed in the latest beta version, and the fix will be included in a future update when that is ready for full release (no specific date can be given). We will leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix has been fully released.

It happened to me in a different way. I play on servers such as those that are not important, I created a server in 1.18.0 I went mining and I found a skeleton-type mob spawner that was working with the mob spinning. then I found another spawner hidden in the water I went to see what type it was and it had no mobs spinning or fire around but if it generated zombie mobs, the weird thing was that I generated a villager zombie and also normal zombies that was weird to me Then I killed it and reported it in bugs mojang I put lighting so that it did not generate any mob then I closed the world and reopened it and there was if the mob appeared turning zombie type with flames around it.

Timer RP Oficial: zombie spawners have always spawned zombie villagers in Bedrock Edition: see MCPE-91436.

It sounds like you experienced MCPE-142285, not this bug.

I found a spawner working correctly at Y = -24 in a chunk I know for sure was generated prior to 1.18, in a world that had never used C&C experiments. So from what I can tell the bug that was tracked on this ticket is indeed fixed.

It is possible, however, that there might be issues with upgrading chunks from older versions, or previously generated spawners in chunks that had never been altered. Does anyone have a spawner that has not worked at all since 1.18.0 in a world that did not have C&C experiments enabled before updating?
