I cannot interact with animals in any way

all the pets in my world are wandering like they don't have an owner. I cannot make them sit and they are simply walking around. The only interaction I can do with them is to feed them when they are injured. Aside from pets I also cannot breed animals. It is frankly discouraging me from playing because it makes it really hard to make any progress. Another thing I noticed is that all my villagers trades have changed completely losing the enchanted books I had worked to get trades for.
