PvP with Thorns armor enchantment crashes game

Resolving temporarily as Awaiting Response. Does the crash occur when you are hit with any axe, even an unenchanted one? If not, what enchantments did you and the other player have on the armor, sword, axe, and shield? This ticket will reopen automatically when you reply.

The crash occurs when the player is wearing any type of armour  (leather armour, iron armour, gold armour, chainmail armour, diamond armour and netherite armour) that is enchanted and gets hit by another player with an axe that is enchanted or not.

The enchantments on the armour was as follows:

Helmet: unbreaking 3

Thorns 3

Mending 

Respiration 3

aqua infinity

And protection 4

Chestplate: unbreaking 3

Thorns 3

Mending 

And blast protection 4

Leggings: unbreaking 3

Thorns 3

Mending 

And fire protection 4

Boots: unbreaking 3

Thorns 3

Mending 

Projectile protection 4

Feather falling 4

And soul speed 3 

In the video I get hit with an enchanted netherite axe. The enchantments on the axe are as follows:

unbreaking 3

Mending 

Smite 5

Efficency 5

It seems to be the thorns enchantment that causes the issue - it doesn't matter what weapon is used to cause the damage. My understanding is the problem is limited to servers, and is present in the full 1.18.30 release.

So we had this issue on our server and we weren't sure what was happening so we tested it. As our server uses packs I deleted the world and ran a brand new world just to rule out the packs.

We tested it on the new world. Slowly gave each player a piece of armor and enchanted with thorns 3.

Having the player with 3 pieces of armor (regardless of what type) and enchanted with thorns 3 ONLY caused a crash. 

I've attached the latest server download with just the gear testing on it.

You don't necessarily have to hit the player with an axe, the error also occurs when you hit with your hand or any other item. In the same way there are times that it takes out both players as well as the one who hits and the one who receives the hit, for now I have tried it on Android and Windows 10 and this crash occurs on both platforms.  The probablema is mainly the armor with the thorns enchantment. 

The crash occurs when an entity hit another entity while both have armor with Thorns enchantment equipped. This is regardless of the weapon used to attacked.

Is there other way to resolve this bug without taking off your Thorns gear? A better question for this I guess is when will this be fixed?

Hopefully soon, because I have my realm, and it heavily affects it. Most of us have thorns in that server.

This has kicked me out of a realm twice. This kicks out all the people and it has reset my player data once. (I haven't logged in again so I cannot confirm this is true but it seems to be connected).
