When I use a bluetooth controller with my phone, and I go into a sign or book or something that you can write on, when I exit, the touch controls and the controller controls try to "merge." Then the touch controls get stuck and bug out, I then have to exit the game and rejoin. This even happens when I use the search menu on crafting!
HOW TO CREATE
1. Get onto a Minecraft world while having a bluetooth controller connected to a phone or tablet
2. Write on a sign or book or the search menu on crafting.
3. Exit out of the sign or book or try to click the thing you just searched up.
4. Voila, your controls have "merged"

Confirmed on 1.18.30 with Microsoft Bluetooth Controller on iPad 10th Gen (iOS 14.8)
With so many blocks to choose from, the inability to search for specific blocks in creative mode is quite aggravating and therefore significantly reduces the playability of the game and should be considered for an immediate high priority fix.
I think I found a temporary fix for this. By clicking the textbox using your finger and exiting it using your finger your controller should still be able to work. This bug also happens when any textbox is interacted with your controller.

Especially annoying during multiplayer when having to exit and start the world again with the game too broken to use chat, but having to exit and start the world again is irritating anyway. Hope the video helps, I've never helped with a bug here before.
I had this happen to me too and I tried to keep playing but I couldn’t use any menus or inventory’s but I had a 12 block interaction range where I could break/place blocks within that range.
I actually got the bug to happen in a slightly different way I was using a PS5 controller on my iPhone 8 Plus to play Minecraft and I connected my Bluetooth keyboard to input some text and the first button I pressed on the keyboard activated this bug.

This bug works with any textbox you open using your controller and type with hand.
My version is 1.18.31
Its reaaaaaaaallllly annoying having to restart your mc. Wait 1 minute for the loading screen. Reopen your world only for you to eventually accidentally cause it again.
