World does not save once game is "paused" (the menu screen) unless a bed is used to sleep at night before

Nothing saves once game goes to the menu screen of your world or realms but people refer that to the game being "paused" unless i wait till dark to use a bed. But it must be done before the game goes to the menu screen. Otherwise the bed will no longer work and anything you've added to your world will not save. Everything was working fine before when once your phone timed out minecraft would kick you out to the main menu screen where the minecraft pe logo appears
