Grass and Plants prevent trees from growing

Trees are not growing (does not matter if its oak birch or whatever)

The problem occurs when there’s grass and flowers next to a sapling which prevents the sapling to grow (does not grow with stacks of bonemeal either)

How to reproduce:

  • Place a sapling (any kind) on a flat surface where it could grow normally.

  • Use bonemeal to grow grass and flowers next to the placed sapling.

  • Now try to grow the sapling.

Expectations:

A beautiful tree grows out of a sapling with no problem.

Reality:

Trees are being prevented from growing just because of a 2-3 block radius of grass and flowers?

Edit:

I tested it on java and it works but why not in bedrock? I mean short grass or flowers can’t and shouldn’t prevent a sapling from growing. But it somehow doesn’t grow in bedrock

This should be reopened for the following reasons:

  • MC-228758 is considered valid and should serve as the strongest case as to why this should be reopened. Any block that is diagonally above the sapling shouldn't prevent it from growing.

  • MCPE-127368 is considered a valid bug. Nearly all the blocks listed as affecting the azalea tree also affect every other tree in the game. Fixing it solely for azaleas would create an inconsistency in that they'd be the only trees that can grow beside said blocks. Note how most of the blocks listed there are 2-block tall blocks of vegetation.

  • MCPE-93524 is also considered a valid bug and tackles a similar issue.

  • This also breaks parity with Java, as some trees (for example oak) can grow if there is any block placed diagonally above the sapling.
