Place Spruce sapling in a 2x2 format and then use bonemeal, it will just show the green effect and it will not grow. In another version of Minecraft Java it works but not in Bedrock.

Cannot reproduce this issue, You need remove all unwanted blocks such as short grass, Large ferns, etc. to clear grow the spruce saplings

I have the same issue in a hardcore world started in 121.40 but not my 6 year old world. The 2x2 will take bonemeal but not grow . I thought it was maybe a biome issue and have tried it everywhere on the effected game. It is broken

Currently, there's also a bug that prevents 2x2 spruce and jungle saplings from growing whenever they're planted adjacent to a block in the north or west positions, see MCPE-188271
