The latest changes on Java 1.20 Pre-release 1 now matches Bedrock Edition with dyeing and re-dyeing the colored wools, carpets, and beds by crafting. However, this change overlooks one thing that Bedrock actually don't have, and that is the ability to dye and re-dye the carpets directly by crafting.
Steps to Reproduce
Get a carpet of any colors
Get a dye of any colors
Craft them together to dye them
Expected Result
The carpet can be dyed and re-dyed over and over again.
Observed Result
The carpet can't be dyed/re-dyed by crafting.
Note:
As a workaround, there's a way to craft dyed carpets in Bedrock right now, however, it is much more complicated by having 8 white carpets around with a dye in the middle on the crafting grid (although you can't re-dye it). However, that crafting recipe was obviously removed in the Java 1.20 Pre-release 1, in favor of the new dye and re-dyeing crafting. It would be better to match Java's mechanics by simplifying it to just craft a dye and a carpet together and also able to redye it over and over again like what wools and beds does right now.
