I decided to do a speedrun in Minecraft Preview(1.21.10.21) and managed to make it to the End. I started taking out the end crystals, but the Ender Dragon would perch really often and then charge at me, making getting on top the obsidian towers really difficult, especially since it would break all my building blocks, making me fall to my inevitable death. I had my spawn point set in the Stronghold, so I could re-enter the End and get my items. I had also managed to take out all except 2-3 of the end crystals.
The Dragon's behavior was different than I'm used to, usually the Dragon flies around for a while and then after a while (up to a few minutes) will perch, and after perching will try to charge at the player, however, the behavior I encountered was the Dragon would fly around for a little while, but would perch after like 30-60 seconds, and then charge at me right after take-off
Expected Behavior: Ender Dragon flies around for a bit and then randomly may perch.
Observed Behavior: Ender Dragon flies around for a short amount of time, and then perches oftentimes after only 30 seconds.
I tested the Dragon's behavior on a brand-new world and saw that it still had the same different behavior as before.

The likelihood of dragons perching is contingent on the amount of remaining end crystals there are. Every time a dragon flies in a circle and completes a lap while it’s “guarding”, it has a chance based on the number of end crystals that are alive to perch.
A lot of this is very RNG-based, so it’s very difficult to say for certain whether this is a bug or not without sufficient data from a good sample size of runs.
