Before the 1.21.20 update, it used to be possible to have detector rail above a hopper and using a comparator, detect when a minecart was empty as a result of sitting on the hopper so additional actions could be taken... like moving the minecart along. This no longer works. It appears that the detector rail now locks the hopper as soon as the minecart land on it meaning the hopper won't empty the minecart meaning the minecart will sit there forever.

To my knowledge detector rails have always worked this way with hoppers, so in order to make a minecart-based filter you would need to offset the detector rail from the hopper in some way. Do you have any video of a setup working as you describe from before the update?

I am mistaken and @GoldenHelmet is correct. My previous build had the comparator on the hopper below and did not use a detector rail. You can close this.

Confirmed.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Place a hopper
2. Put a detector rail on top
3. Place a hopper minecart or chest minecart on top of detector rail
4. Put items inside minecart
Expected Result:
Items will empty the minecart into the hopper and travel on
Actual Result:
Items stay inside the minecart
