Baby animals and villagers cause a drop in framerate but only when they are in range of the players camera. They still cause lag even if they would be visually obscured by opaque blocks.
So standing next to a baby pig won't cause a framerate drop but looking at him will. Chunk render distance didn't seem to help except that it doesn't draw baby mobs after X chunk distance. Widening and narrowing the fov to increase the viewing angle has an effect that is analogous with moving the camera in game.
The drop in frame rate seems to stack. A single baby will drop me from 30ish fps to 20ish. Each additional baby tends to drop it a further 2-3 fps.
Baby mobs that I have observed causing the fps drop are pigs, rabbits, horses and villagers. Baby zombies do not cause a fps drop, so it only seems to affect babys that are programmed to grow up.
I've had this problem since the boss update but I wasn't sure what was causing it until now. Suffice it to say, I've resorted to killing ponies and avoiding biomes where rabbits frequently spawn. So I've pretty much been hanging out in deserts and mesa'.(there's not enough dirt for rabbits to spawn ; P)
I'm running this on a Nokia 950.

Is this still happening? It's important to know that Windows Phone 8.1 is no longer supported for MCPE (as of 1.0).
