I can no longer play any of my worlds because I often play splitscreen with my roomate. Now, the game is telling me that I cannot play multi-player without a monthly subscription. I understand blocking online play, that's the benefit that comes with an Xbox live subscription, but clearly there was a mistake in this latest update because a paywall for split-screen makes no sense.
I'm reading the case that came with the disk as i write this, and it clarifies that you need a subscription for online multi-player, but brags 1-4 players without any need for a subscription. To go back on that now could be a massive issue, not only for players who depended on this feature for as long as the game's been out, but for the company. Since the packaging insinuates that split-screen is a free service, it's actually deceptive practice to paywall it in accordance to consumer protection laws.
Of course, that would be for the unlikely case that this was intentional, which I highly doubt that mojang would disregard the point of minecraft for a little extra cash. I would just like to see this fixed when possible, we were looking forward to playing today.

For anyone having this issue with “disabled worlds” - all my single-player worlds I had previously played in LAN were also disabled after the update. When I would try to click play on the worlds menu, I got an error message (screenshot attached) since I don’t pay for Xbox Live. Here’s how I fixed it as of version 1.21.72: Click “edit” world, and “Play” from the edit screen. It will load and re-save the world and will no longer be disabled.

This happens in both situations, when trying to join to another device and vice versa. I can play LAN withing Minecraft Pocket Edition and Minecraft Windows Edition, but when trying this on Xbox the LAN World does not appear on the Worlds Menu and neither the World created on Xbox appear in the other devices when playing.
The change the OreUI on the play screen also makes LAN play require an Xbox live subscription as well when it previously didn’t. Also, all worlds with multiplayer on are disabled and cannot be opened unit Multiplayer is turned off even if no one joins the world.
