Context
With a recent update, many people are running into a “Multiplayer Disabled” error. Clicking through for more information just takes you to a sales pitch for XBox live. I’ve attached an image to demonstrate. You can also see the following for others who’ve run into this:

To be clear, I think it’s fine to charge for multiplayer, but single-player users should be able to update their worlds to be single player, right?
The Bug - No Way to Disable Multiplayer for Existing Worlds
For me (and many others), my worlds have never been used for multiplayer - they were only marked that way by mistake or some default. I’d be happy to disable multiplayer (which used to be possible) and carry on, but for all existing worlds, the multiplayer settings are completely inaccessible. I believe this only happens for accounts that don’t have Xbox Live or Game Pass subscriptions. Other users hitting this problem:

* “when I go into the world settings it's the multiplayer tab is won't let me scroll down nor select anything so Is there a way to turn it off”
* https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1jt183b/cant_play_solo_on_any_world/
* “in the options, none of the multiplayer ones are selectable”
* https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1k1n9t0/cant_play_minecraft_because_multiplayer_is/
* “I tried going into the world settings and turning multiplayer off, it wont let me”
I’ve attached an image of the multiplayer settings - the only selectable options are “Read more” at the top that talks about achievements. It’s impossible to navigate down to the actual options. I’ve also attached a video demonstrating the problem.
As-is, any world marked as multiplayer is unusable and cannot be modified to be single player (without, presumably, buying an Xbox live or game pass subscription).
It was very easy to accidentally have a world marked as multiplayer. Users should be able to correct that without paying for a service they won’t use.

No, that ticket doesn’t capture the issue. That ticket is describing expected behavior - locking multiplayer behing a paywall seems intentional.
This ticket is about the fact that you’re blocking single-player users from updating their worlds to be single-player.
That ticket: I can’t play multiplayer worlds
This ticket: I can’t change my world settings.
