dark oak saplings wont grow

i don't know if this just me,however when playing in creative dark oak saplings will not grow. I tried using bone meal yet still nothing. my base is in a plains biome so there is nothing obstructing it. I have realisimcraft and soundscapes + added on to my main world although I don't believe this is part of the issue because I created a new vanilla world and received the same result. please helppp!
