When you stand in front of a dog, after a few seconds when he starts looking at you too, his whole body seems to be looking at you a little to the left of the screen, it's not quite so symmetrical, in the middle.

Ok, I don't know if you can already notice, but the dog, as you can see, was looking slightly to the left, which gave the illusion that he wasn't looking quite so straight at me.
